Targeted or immune therapies improve the survival rate of obese men with metastatic melanoma. Specific estrogen receptors can be tuned to respond to immunotherapy. In obese men, adipose tissue produces an enzyme called aromatase that converts androgens into estrogens which could protect them from melanoma.
