Heparin is an anticoagulant drug or blood thinner which is used to treat or prevent the formation of blood clots in conditions like deep vein thrombosis, arterial thromboembolism, pulmonary embolism, extracorporeal circulation or ecmo circuit, and disseminated intravascular coagulation. Protamine sulfate is the antidote for heparin overdosage.
