Genetic Mutations Associated With Congenital Heart Disease

New genetic mutations have been associated with congenital heart disease. The research paper has been published in the Nature Genetics. The exact cause of congenital heart disease is not known. Genetic factors have been implicated, since children suffering from genetic disorders are more prone to develop heart disease. Exposure of the mother to cigarette smoke or other toxic substances could also predispose to heart disease in the baby.
