What is Takayasu's Syndrome ?  

A group of disorders that occurs due to blood vessel inflammation, primarily damaging the aorta. The condition can result in blockages, narrowing of arteries or abnormally dilated arteries.


Cause(s) :  
  • Inflammation of aorta and major arteries
  • May be triggered by infection
Symptoms :  

Symptoms of Stage 1:
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle aches
  • Rapid, unintentional weight loss
  • Joint pain
  • Feverishness
Symptoms of stage 2: When inflammation causes narrowing of arteries, resulting in lack of blood, oxygen and nutrient supply to organs and tissues.
  • Arm or leg weakness
  • Arm/leg pain increases with use
  • Lightheadedness or dizziness
  • Fainting
  • Memory problems
  • Thinking disturbances
  • Visual problems
  • Blood pressure fluctuations
  • Absent pulse in wrists
  • Anemia
  • Abdominal pain
  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
