‘Mayday’ is the universal distress call given during an emergency. In an airplane, there maybe many unusual circumstances that prompts the captain to give this signal. Contrary to the belief that an emergency on board means an imminent crash and virtual death, 70% of airline crashes are survivable. Most deaths occur because passengers are unprepared or in their panic, do not follow safety norms.
