Uterine Cancer Types
The following are the different types of uterine cancers:
1. Endometrial cancer: Endometrial carcinomas affect the glands of the endometrium or the uterine lining. This type is further divided into the following categories:
- Endometrioid adenocarcinoma - A common type of cancer that can be easily treated.
- Uterine papillary serous carcinoma – An aggressive form of uterine cancer.
- Uterine clear-cell carcinoma – Another aggressive type of uterine cancer.
- Endometrial stromal sarcomas – Cancers that affect the connective tissues of the endometrium that are not as common as endometrial carcinomas.
2. Malignant mixed Müllerian tumors: Show a mix of both the glandular and the stromal cells of the endometrium-their cell of origin is unknown.
3. Uterine sarcomas: Sarcomas are cancers that affect the muscular layer of the uterus, the myometrium. Of this category, the leiomyosarcomas are the most common.
4. Cervical cancer: Affects the mouth of the uterus or the cervix, a region which connects the vagina to the uterus and is normally treated as a separate entity due to it being a common type of malignancy in women.
5. Gestational trophoblastic disease: Malignancy originating from the fetal tissue during pregnancy.

From all the symptoms of endometrial cancer, the commonly noted one is unanticipated or irregular vaginal bleeding post menopause.
