Signs or Alarm Signals of Indigestion or dyspepsia
What are the danger signs or alarm signals of indigestion or dyspepsia?
As already mentioned less than 2% of the cases of indigestion are due to cancers. An early diagnosis of serious conditions causing indigestion is important. You are advised to consult a doctor if you have any of these complaints:
- Frequent vomiting or if the vomit contains blood
- Loss of weight
- Loss of appetite
- Black tarry stools
- Difficulty or pain during swallowing
- Abdominal pain in parts other than the epigastrium (i.e. upper abdomen, between the lower end of chest bone and the navel)
- Indigestion associated with symptoms like shortness of breath, sweating, or pain that radiates to the jaw, neck, or arm
- Yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes (jaundice)
- Indigestion that has persisted for more than 2 weeks
