Overseas Medical Practitioners Urged to Team Up With Indian Institutions: Azad

Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad suggested overseas Indian Medical Professionals to collaborate in building institutions in India. He made the recommendation during the inauguration at the Health Conference at the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas 2012 at Jaipur. The minister invited the medical community practicing abroad to provide assistance in the health sector especially in areas where the shortage of professionals is most acute.

"The Government has now taken the initiative to facilitate overseas citizens of India to both practice and teach in India. The Health Ministry is piloting the necessary changes required in the relevant acts," said Azad.

Azad said India wants to forge one of the "most effective partnerships" in a slew of areas like medical research, academic collaboration, tele-medicine and skill building.

"One of the most effective partnerships we hope to forge with you all today is in a variety of areas including medical research, academic collaboration, tele-medicine and skill building", Azad told the gathering.

He said the government was prepared to go an "extra mile to adequately liberalise policies and set up a single window within the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to ease the process of your meaningful participation."

Azad also noted that the government is now recognising post-graduate degrees of five English speaking countries like the UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand for teaching as visiting faculty in the country.
