Pistachio Nuts May Improve Erectile Dysfunction

Here's one more reason why men should switch to pistachio nuts. Pistachio diet improves erectile function parameters and serum lipid profiles in patients with erectile dysfunction, suggests studies.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a sexual dysfunction where the patient is unable to develop or maintain an erection of the penis during sexual performance. The causes of ED are many. Diabetes, hypertension, high serum cholesterol level, peripheral vascular disease and cardiac problems are found to have significant association with ED. Pistachio nuts are rich sources of plant proteins, dietary fibers and especially antioxidant substances. Previous studies have established the cardio-protective effects of pistachio. Pistachio is rich with unsaturated fatty acids and has low amount of saturated fatty acids. Consuming pistachio may improve the circulation to penile tissues thus improving erectile dysfunction.

Nut consumption is known to cut down the risk of coronary heart disease. People who eat nuts at least 5 times per week will enjoy a 50% reduction in risk. Epidemiological studies have also shown that compared with people who ate nuts less than one time per week, those who ate them 1-4 times per week had a 25% reduced risk of dying from coronary heart disease.

17 married male patients with ED for at least 12 months were included in the study. A pistachio diet of 3 weeks was found to bring about significant improvements. Results were assessed based on a number of erectile function parameters. Additional improvement was also found in serum lipid parameters without any side effects. Results were published in the International Journal of Impotence Research.

However further studies are required to investigate deep into the matter. The current one is not conclusive owing to the small study sample. Pistachio nuts are definitely worth a buy owing to the already established cardio-protective roles. The new study further calls in for promotion of pistachio.

I love pistachio! It's great that these nut has cardio-protective effects on the body. And now, it has been proven also that it can help men with erectile dysfunction. Although the result of the study is not yet conclusive, it just shows that pistachio has other beneficial effects and researchers should look more into that.
