This medication is penicillin antibiotic, prescribed for certain types of bacterial infections (E.g. biliary tract infections).When should Mezlocillin Sodium not be taken? (Contraindications)
Hypersensitivity.What is the dosage of Mezlocillin Sodium?
Adults- IM/IV- 200 to 300 mg/kg/day in 4 to 6 divided doses.IM- Doses should not exceed 2 gm.
Children (older than 1 mo to younger than 12 yr)- IM/IV- 50 mg/kg every 4 hour.
Newborns- IV- 75 mg/kg every 6 to 12 hour.

• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of any allergy, diarrhea, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.• Patient may develop with increased risk of bleeding problems, perform coagulation test regularly.
What are the side effects of Mezlocillin Sodium?
Central Nervous System- Lethargy, irritability, hallucinations, epilepsy, dizziness, fatigue, sleeplessness, hyperactivity and prolonged muscle relaxation.Skin- Skin scar.
Eye and ENT- Itchy eyes.
Gastrointestinal- Nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, rectal bleeding, flatulence, inflammation of intestine and loss of appetite.
Genitourinary- Inflammation of kidney, absence of urine, protein in urine, blood/pus in urine and elevated Blood Urea Nitrogen.
Liver- Jaundice and inflammation of liver.
Blood- Anemia, decreased/altered blood cell counts, bone marrow depression and prolonged bleeding.
Metabolic- Elevated liver enzyme levels and reduced mineral and uric acid level in blood.
