Vitamin C / Ascorbic acid - Toxicity

Vitamin C / Ascorbic acid - Toxicity

Vitamin C is a generally safe vitamin. However, large doses may give rise to gastric trouble. It has been reported to cause kidney stones.

Further more, hemolysis (destruction of the red blood cells) may be seen in patients with an intrinsic G6PD enzyme (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) deficiency.

Ascorbic Acid and Vitamin C are not the same. They are two different things. Vitamin C is a much bigger molecule and contains many different constituents apart from Ascorbic Acid - Ascorbic acid is found within the Vitamin C complex. Vitamin C contains a number of inseparable cofactors, such as rutin, bioflavonoids, factor k, factor j, factor p, ascorbinogen, protein chaperones, and various enzymes like tyrosinase, which together in their entirety constitute the Vitamin C complex. So kindly do not equate Ascorbic Acid with Vitamin C. Vitamin C is extremely powerful yet completely harmless compound and can be used in mega doses beneficially against many prevailing deceases including Cancer, AIDS and Heart deceases. The same cannot be said of Ascorbic Acid though. Kalyankrisnan P

I take Vitamin C 500 mg everyday. It really makes a difference. I seldom get sick now.
