Glossary
Antibodies: Protein produced by white blood cells, which neutralize or destroy foreign proteins in the body (antigens). When infected with virus or bacteria, the body produces antibodies, which destroy the invading microorganisms.Antioxidant: Prevents oxidation (combining with oxygen). Anti-oxidant substances include superoxide dismutase, selenium, vitamin C and E, and zinc.
Anti-inflammatory: Having to do with reducing inflammation.
Autoimmune Disease: When the immune system mistakes self tissues (self antigens) as foreign antigen (non self) and results in an inappropriate immune response it results in an autoimmune disease.
Endocrine System: A regulatory system comprised of the endocrine glands that controls vital body functions such as metabolic activity, growth, and reproduction.
Fatigability: Feeling Weak.
Inflammation: A response of redness, swelling, pain, and a feeling of heat in certain areas which is meant to protect tissues affected by injury or disease.
Thyroiditis: Inflammation of Thyroid Gland.
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone: A chemical messenger regulating thyroid activity and produced by the pituitary gland, in excessive amounts when the thyroid gland fails to respond because of underactivity.
