Symptoms
Precocious puberty is marked by changes that signify early sexual maturation.
Precocious puberty is if the following symptoms are seen in girls before the age of 8-years:
- Development of underarm or pubic hair
- Rapid growth in the height
- Breast development
- Onset of menstruation (menarche)
- Acne
- Maturation of outer genitals
Precocious puberty in boys is when any of the following develop before 9-years:
- Enlargement of penis and testicles
- Development of underarm or pubic hair
- Appearance of facial hair, often first on the upper lip
- Muscle growth
- Rapid growth in the height
- Acne
- Voice changes (deepening of the voice)
