Otitis Media - Causes

What are the causes of Otitis Media ?

It occurs when viruses and bacteria get inside the ear . It often happens as a result of another illness, such as a cold or allergy. The infection is often caused by scratching, inserting objects into the ear canal, or moisture, such as swimming pool water.

I have a chronic middle ear infection that only appears in my left ear. It feels like there is a on and off switch in my middle ear that goes on and off. Will antibiotics help?
