Risk Factors

People coming in close contact with infected patients or animals are at a high risk for developing Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF).

The following people are at a higher risk for developing Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF):

  • People working in close contact with livestock like farmers, butchers and veterinarians
  • People over the age of 40 years
  • Doctors and other hospital staff treating infected patients especially the severely ill
  • People in close contact with other patients
  • People involved in activities like hiking and camping, which increase exposure to ticks
