When and How to Take Metronidazole
- Metronidazole is available in the form of a tablet, an extended-release tablet, and as a capsule to be taken orally (by mouth).
- Capsules can be taken with or without food. If the medication upsets your stomach, it is best to take it with a meal.
- The extended-release tablet should be taken without food, at least 1 hour before or after a meal.
- Swallow this tablet as a whole instead of crushing, chewing or breaking it.
- Follow the directions exactly as given on the prescription label. Take the medication at the same time every day for better results.
- Do not exceed or skip the dose. If you miss it, take the medication as soon as you remember.
