This medication is a calcimimetic agent, prescribed for secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease and for hypocalcaemia in patients with parathyroid cancer. It helps in parathyroid hormone secretion in order to decrease the amount of calcium in the blood.
Dose is based on patient’s condition and response to the medication. The recommended initial oral dose is 30 mg once daily.
It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of epilepsy, liver or kidney disease, low blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, during pregnancy and lactation.
• It may cause dizziness or drowsiness, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication.
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, dizziness, high blood pressure, weakness, loss of appetite and pain chest.
Avoid excess dosage.
Store it at controlled room temperature (25°C).
