Temper Tantrums in Kids can be Overcome by Ignoring Them
A new study published in the journal Emotion suggests that different temper tantrum sounds of children can be attributed to different emotions and the best way to end it quickly is by ignoring the child until the tantrum cools off.
The study was conducted by researchers from the University of Connecticut who sewed microphones into onesies and gave them to parents of two-to three-year olds. The researchers then recorded the tantrums and found that screaming was a way of expressing anger while the crying, fussing and whining that followed was a way of expressing sadness.

Lead researcher James Green said that it is difficult for parents to differentiate the emotions of their children as both the patterns are intertwined. Instead Green suggests that parents should ignore the children as it is the best way of quickly get them past the tantrums.

“If parents can avoid getting caught up in the anger, better things are likely to happen. Of course, if you are in a theater, you may simply have to ‘take control’ in the sense of physically removing the child”, he said.
