Former South African President Nelson Mandela aged 95 passed away last
night at his home following recurring lung infection, say sources.
According to News24, several national leaders and ordinary citizens from around the world joined in mourning Nelson Mandela. President Jacob Zuma announced that Mandela died "peacefully" at his home in Johannesburg last night.
Zuma mourned Mandela's death, saying that the nation has lost its greatest son. He further added that although they knew that this day would come, nothing can diminish the sense of a profound and enduring loss.
Mandela had spent 27 years as a prisoner in South Africa for opposing apartheid, and then emerged to become his country's first black president.He was bestowed with the Nobel Peace Prize and he became an enduring symbol of integrity, principle and resilience.
