Incidents of killing women in the name of honor has increased to alarming proportions in Pakistan. In the past year around 36 women were being killed for honor, women's rights organization Aurat Foundation has said.
Speaking at a press conference, Ashfaq Mengal, Aurat Foundation's programme coordinator, said that more incidents of violence against women were being reported to the organization.
"About 76 cases of violence against women were registered during the last year. Although there was a decline in such cases, but incidents involving murder of women for honor increased to alarming proportions," the Daily Times quoted Mengal, as saying.
He also emphasized that his organization would share its report with the government to eliminate violence against women.
