Doctors Welcome Panel, but are Cautious
The constitution of a new six-member panel for taking charge of the Medical Council of India (MCI) has been welcomed by Indian medicos worldwide, but they are very cautious in opining if this panel will work in a different and efficient manner as compared to the Ketan Desai-led MCI.//
Many doctors' groups said the panel must not include any person who has known ties with Dr Desai. The current make-up of the panel includes eminent doctors like Dr. Shivkumar Sirin, Prof Ranjeet Ray Chaudhari and Prof RN Sullen from New Delhi, Dr. Sita Naik from Gurgaon, Dr. Devi Prasad Shetty from Bangalore and Prof Gautam Sen from Mumbai.

Initially the panel was to have Professor Tandon on board, but a body called People for Better Treatment (PBT) in the US filed a petition with the Prime Minister's Office and managed to avert his appointment as he was close to Dr Desai.

Dr Pankaj Singhal, of the Remedy MCI campaign was unhappy with the inclusion of Prof Sullen "due to his previous connections with Dr Desai. We plan to keep monitoring the new panel’s work.”
