Piles / Hemorrhoids – Complications

Complications of surgery

Complications are low in experienced hands; however some complications do occur at times. These are:

  • Bleeding and recurrence of the problem can happen as with any surgery.
  • If the sphincter (muscle that holds the stool like a stopcock) has been damaged it will lead to loss of control of the stool or stricture formation.

The patient may occasionally have a temporary inability to pass urine in the first 24 hours; this is easily reversed.
