Functions of Cholesterol
Cholesterol is an important component of cell membranes and some hormones, and serves other several bodily functions.
The functions of cholesterol are as follows -
- Cholesterol is necessary for the formation and maintenance of cell membranes (helps the cell to resist changes in temperature and protects and insulates nerve fibers).
- It is involved in the production of sex hormones (estrogen and androgens).
- It is essential for the production of hormones released by the adrenal glands (cortisol, corticosterone, aldosterone and others).
- It is necessary for production of bile, which help to digest food.
- It is important for synthesis of vitamin D.
- It plays a vital role in the metabolism of the fat soluble-vitamins A, D, E and K.

I have sum Problem with my cholesterol Level as billow SERUM TRIGLYCERIDE 319 SERUM CHOLESTEROL 198 SERUM HDL CHOLESTEROL (Direct) 40 SERUM LDL CHOLESTEROL (Direct) 101 SERUM VLDL CHOLESTEROL 57 SERUM TOTAL CHOLESTEROL: HDL – CHOLESTEROL 4.95 Please suggest me proper treatment and medicines, as possible billow side effect,Waiting for your kind response
