There are no specific laboratory tests or any physical parameters that must be met with to confirm amnesia.

Amnesia diagnosis is carried out by using the following methods:

• In diagnosing amnesia and its cause, doctors look at several factors.
• Physical examination - The Doctor takes down details regarding recent illnesses or traumas and history of medications. The doctor also evaluates the patient's general health to assess the cause leading to amnesia.
• Neuro- psychological examination are sophisticated psychological tests conducted to determine the degree of amnesia and the extent to which it affects the person’s memory.

• Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the brain is a scan done to determine the extent of brain damage.
• Blood tests are taken to rule out treatable metabolic causes or chemical imbalances.
