What should be the dose and frequency?

Oral- The recommended dose is 20 mg or up to 600 mcg/kg on alternate days, after 2 hours sunlight or UV light exposure for 15 minutes.
Topical: 1%-Solution/Ointment- Apply thin layer of this medication over the affected area then exposed to sunlight for 1 minute.

What are the common side effects of Meladerm

Most Common : Low blood pressure.

Local : Dryness, itching and redness of the skin.

How to use Meladerm?

It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with food.
It also comes as a solution or ointment to apply topically as directed by your physician.

In which conditions should Meladerm be avoided?

Contraindicated in patients with skin cancer, sensitivity to sunlight, and hypersensitivity.

What are the Precautions needed with Meladerm

Caution should be exercised in patients with history of coal tar UV treatment, radiation, have taken arsenic compounds, any infection, blood vessel disease, any allergy, who are taking other medications, elderly, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Avoid taking sunbathe and light therapy at least 24 hours before treatment with this medication.

If recommended dose or schedule is not maintained properly, patient may develop with serious burns.

Wear goggles during the treatment to protect your eyes.

It should not be used in children less than 12 years of old.

Avoid excess dosage.
