Why is Zileuton Prescribed? (Indications)

This medication is a leukotriene synthesis inhibitor, prescribed for asthma. It blocks the formation of a substance called leukotriene that helps to remove asthma and allergic symptoms.

When should Zileuton not be taken? (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with liver disease and hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Zileuton?

PO- The recommended dose is 1200mg two times per day.

How should Zileuton be taken?

It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, within one hour after the morning and evening meals.

What are the warnings and precautions for Zileuton?

• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of mental illness, liver impairment, who are taking other medications, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
