This medication is an anticoagulant, prescribed for hypovolaemic shock, thromboembolic disorders, pulmonary embolism, venous thrombosis and prophylaxis of post-op thromboembolic disorders.
Contraindicated in patients with history of hypersensitivity, severe kidney disease with oliguria or anuria (absence urination), heart disease, during pregnancy.
Adult: I- As dextran 40 (10% solution): 10 ml/kg/day for up to 5 days. As dextran 70 (6% solution): Initial: 500-1,000 ml as an infusion. Maintenance: 10 ml/kg/day 3 days.
It comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the vein.
• Caution should be exercised in patients with any allergy, who are taking other medications, and breastfeeding.
GI disturbances, headache, dizziness, allergic reactions, raised liver enzyme values, hair loss and bone marrow suppression.
Avoid excess dosage.
Store it as directed by your physician.
