What is a percentile?
Percentile is a number used to assess an attribute in comparison to the rest of the reference population. In the case of height (or weight), it is the percentage of the population of the same age and gender whose height (or weight) is less than or equal to the percentile given. For example, if a 2 year old boy's weight is at the 60th percentile, this means his weight is higher than or equal to 60% of all other 2 year old boys. A higher percentile therefore means the child is at the higher end of the growth spectrum for their age and gender and vice versa.
