Alcohol and Driving - Indian Law

Drunken Driving Law in India:

In India, while driving a motor vehicle, if a person has a Blood Alcohol Level (BAC) exceeding 30 mg of intake per 100 ml of blood detected by a Breathalyzer, he or she is booked under 'first offense'. This consists of imprisonment for a term, which may extend up to six months, or with a fine up to two thousand rupees or both.

For a second or subsequent offense, if committed within three years of the commission of the previous similar offense, he or she will face an imprisonment of a term, which may extend to two years, or with fine, which may extend to three thousand rupees or with both.

Despite the strictures of the Motor Vehicle Act, many drivers get away and thus drunken driving has become a menace to Indian Society.

CAN A PERSON DRIVE A VEHICLE- FOUR WHEEL WITH ALCOHOL INTAKE OF MORE THAN 0.9%. OR SAY 95 MGM LEVEL.. IS IT MEDICALLY POSSIBLE TO DRIVE A FOUR WHEELER FOR 40 KM WITH 0.95% OR 9.5 MG OF ALCOHOL

Even Dubai is quite strict for drunken driving. They take photos - from Police cameras and people get booked with hefty fines.

How does 30mg/100ml translate in terms of the amount of Alchohol that can be consumed by an individual and keep him within this safe limit. Will having a bottle of beer keep within this safe thresh hold. I know BAC depends on a lot of other factors...but I guess a safe limit can be arrived at in terms of bottles of beer.....or a CHOTA or a BADA peg.......Cheerio.
