by Medindia Content Team on Nov 25 2006 3:30 PM

The Whanganui District Health Board Hospital is experiencing a dearth of specialists, which was confirmed by the Hospital general manager, Sue Capenerhurst.

Mrs. Capenerhurst explained that the hospital will have to put up with the shortfall in obstetricians till end-December as the pediatrician employed for full-time services is currently on leave. The hospital is in the process of recruiting more staff to tide over the crisis.

The medical board is also in receipt of a report from an independent project with information about a regional pediatric service. The report has expressed the keenness of the Mid Central District Health Board, on a collaboration with the WDHB, to institute a regional pediatric service. Further discussion on this subject is due to take place.
