Traditional Medical Encyclopedia of Korea is World Documentary Heritage

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has listed Korea's traditional medical encyclopedia on oriental medicine as a world documentary heritage.

The book called the "Principles and Practice of Eastern Medicine," has been added to the Memory of the World Register. This makes it the seventh book from Korea to be listed by UNESCO. The previous ones include Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and the Hunmin Chongum Manuscript.

The UN organisation said the book, which was said to be edited in 1613 by Heo Jun, a court physician, is an important document as it details how medicine evolved in this area.
