Diverse Donors Asked to Donate Blood in NY

The New York Blood Center (NYBC) has asked diverse donors to donate blood on the occasion of the National Minority Donor Awareness Day this weekend.

Patients with sickle cell disease, thalassemia, cancer or leukemia, pregnant women and newborn babies can build up antibodies to combat frequent infections with blood transfusions. Patients require identical transfusion from someone who has inherited the same antigens, or markers, in their blood.
