A study of nearly 1,850 people over 65 years has outlined the positive benefits of shopping or retail therapy which boosts longevity. The study pointed out that those who shopped frequently lived much longer than those who shopped much less, while also considering the subjects’ physical health.
Shopping may be better than hitting the gym, as seeing new faces kept loneliness at bay and improved emotional health.
“In shopping venues, socializing with, or watching others can provide social and mental benefits. Compared with other types of leisure-time physical activity, like formal exercise, which usually requires motivation and sometimes professional instruction, shopping is easier to undertake and maintain”, researchers said.
