 Premature Births on a High After Deadly New Zealand Quake

There has been immense strain on the health services in New Zealand owing to the earthquake. Added to this scenario, is the surge in premature births, post the earthquake, which is putting a strain on health care services in New Zealand.

Natural disasters cause a great deal of fear and tension, and this is perhaps the reason for the surge in premature births.

Whatever it is, The Christchurch neonatal unit is having its hands full dealing with the increase in pre-term births. Infact, they have also advertised for additional midwives to manage the load.

Many babies have been transferred to North Island hospitals to ensure proper healthcare.
