15-17% decreased attendance for religious services have been linked to an increase of 10 years of life expectancy.
A joint research by the University of East Anglia and the
University of St Andrews looked at the impact of life expectancy and
religiosity. It was seen that in countries with low life expectancies people
tend to embrace faith earlier in their lives, while people in the developed
world often wait until thoughts of an afterlife become more relevant. Young
people who expect to live longer do not worry about what will happen to them after
their death. So, they do not feel the need to visit a church, mosque or temple
until they get older and closer to death. 15-17% decreased attendance for religious
services have been linked to an increase of 10 years of life expectancy.
