A new study says that chocolate may help reduce cholesterol levels in certain individuals.
As per a review of eight studies, patients with heart disease or diabetes who ate a small piece of chocolate every day saw their levels of "bad" cholesterol fall.

For healthy people, however, there was no clear advantage.

It is reckoned that cocoa, a key ingredient of chocolate, contains high levels of antioxidants which help mop up free radicals and prevent them from damaging cells.

The latest research was by Dr Rutai Hui of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College in Beijing, reports The Daily Express.

"Future research should concentrate on higher-quality and more rigorous trials with longer follow-ups to resolve the uncertainty," said Dr Hui. "Then we can really eat chocolate without feeling guilty."
