FDA Issues Warning on Unpasteurized Milk

by Rajshri on Mar 29 2010 9:12 PM

The US Food and Drug Administration has warned the general public from drinking unpasteurized milk after 12 new cases of campylobacteriosis were confirmed in Michigan.

The FDA revealed that it is working closely with the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) and has asked other state health agencies to contain the spread of the outbreak that originated at Forest Grove Dairy in Middlebury, Indiana.

Some of the health problems caused by drinking raw milk include vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, headache, and body ache and though many people recover quickly from such problems, the FDA warned that condition might worsen in some cases especially among pregnant women and infants.
