Cord Blood Stem Cell Awareness Month is a public education initiative linking researchers, doctors, patients and the general public around the country. It provides a platform to appreciate the scientific and clinical developments on stem cells, unfolding the speculations and myths around the concept and thereby encouraging more people to store cord blood stem cells.
Cord blood stem cells in the purest form have the potential to treat many devastating, degenerative and induced diseases of the heart, lung, brain, kidney and nervous system including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, type 1 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis, immunodeficiencies and blood disorders. Globally around 25.3% of stem cell therapies are done to treat cancer and various neural diseases. Ongoing research and study is certain to explore many more ways of sustaining and safeguarding human lives from such disease threats.
Cryo-Save has taken the initiative to foster greater understanding about cord blood stem cell storage and also its potential applications for various life threatening diseases. Speaking on the occasion of the launch on Sept 14, Tuesday, Dr Parijatha Rao, Director, Laboratory Operations, Cryo-Save India, said, “We would like to encourage more expectant mothers to store the cord blood as it can extend the mother’s care for a lifetime and thereby ensure the future health of the child”.
Dr. Prabhu, Head-Haematology Global Hospital and Health City, Cryo-Save India added that “The general awareness about the concept of Cord blood stem cells and its clinical applications is low in India; thereby this kind of awareness initiative can help expectant mothers to take decision wisely”
