Blood Pressure Will Be on Rise in Winter, Warns Study

Blood pressure may go up in winter and come down to a healthier level in summer, according to a study by US researchers. Researchers from the US Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Washington analysed the data of 443,632 veterans treated for hypertension.

They found that blood pressure might go up in winter because people exercise less and also tend to consume more salt. In summer, blood pressure comes down because people lose weight and exercise more, the online edition of BBC News reported.

Blood pressure is the amount of blood the heart pumps and the amount of resistance to blood flow in the arteries.

High blood pressure or hypertension is a common disorder in which the pressure remains abnormally high. High blood pressure typically has no symptoms, but can lead to major health problems including stroke, heart failure, heart attack and kidney failure.

It is the single most important cause of premature death worldwide. However, it can be controlled with lifestyle changes and medications.
