Glossary

Philadelphia chromosome: A chromosomal abnormality that results from a translocation between chromosomes 22 and 9. It is a marker in CML.

Monoclonal antibody: Antibodies that are raised against a specific target.

Immunosuppression: A condition when the immune system is compromised.

Adjuvant Chemotherapy: It is the use of drugs as an added treatment for cancer patients whose disease has spread outside the original site(s).

Radiation Treatment: Using ionizing radiation like gamma rays to treat cancer.

Myelosuppression: A condition where the bone marrow cells are severely affected, as in the case of certain cancers.

Secondary cancer: Cancer that arises as a result of treating an already existing cancer.
