Iodine deficiency results in
- Goiter
- Physical and mental retardation
- Subnormal intelligence
- Neuromuscular weakness
- Spasticity
- Hypothyroidism
- Dwarfism
- Cretinism
- Deaf-mutism and defect in vision
- Frequent abortions, still births or intrauterine death in pregnant mothers
