Glossary

Meconium: Meconium is the first feces of newborn that is made up of salts, amniotic fluid, bile etc. It is greenish black and almost odorless. If the fetus aspirates the meconium in uterus, or with the first few breaths after birth, it leads to meconium aspiration syndrome which includes respiratory depression and circulatory problems. Resuscitation is given to such infants.

Endotracheal tube: It is a catheter inserted through the mouth into the trachea to provide protection to the blocked airway.
