Prucalopride is a prescription medicine used in adults to treat chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC).
Chronic means long standing. Idiopathic means the cause is unknown.

Why is Prucalopride Prescribed? (Indications)

Prucalopride is a serotonin agonist (acts like serotonin in our body), used for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in adults.  

When should Prucalopride not to be taken? (Contraindications)

Prucalopride is contraindicated in patients with:

• Allergy to Prucalopride or any of the components in Prucalopride
• Intestinal perforation (bowel tear)
• Obstructive ileus (bowel block)
• Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis
• Toxic megacolon

What is the dosage of Prucalopride?

Prucalopride is available as tablets containing 1 mg or 2mg Prucalopride.

How should Prucalopride be taken?

1. The recommended dose of prucalopride is 2 mg once daily for adults with or without food.
2. The dose is 1mg once daily for adults with renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 30 mL/min)
