This medication is a digestive enzyme combination, prescribed for dyspepsia (indigestion), cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, and pancreatectomy. It helps the body to digest protein, starch, and fat.

When should Pancrelipase / Pancreatin not be taken? (Contraindications)

Hypersensitivity.

What is the dosage of Pancrelipase / Pancreatin?

Adult- The recommended dose is 500 units/kg orally per meal. Maintenance: 400 to 2500 units/kg orally per meal.
Child- Less than 1 year: 2000 to 4000 units per 120 mL of formula, breast milk, or per breast-feeding.
Greater than 1 to less than 4 years: Initial dose: 1000 units/kg/meal. Dosage range: 1000 to 2500 units/kg/meal.

It comes as a powder, tablet, and capsule to take by mouth, with food and plenty of water.

What are the warnings and precautions for Pancrelipase / Pancreatin?

• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of pancreas, stomach or bowel problems, or cystic fibrosis, any allergy, who are taking other medications, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

• It may cause dizziness, or blurred vision, do not drive a car or operate machinery while taking this medication. Not to be taken with hot liquids or foods as these may inactivate the enzyme supplements.
