This medication is an anti-inflammatory enzyme, prescribed for abscesses, ulcers, surgery, or traumatic injuries and enzymatic zonulysis for intracapsular lens extraction. It helps in breakdown of proteins and polypeptides.
Contraindicated in patients with severe liver, kidney impairment, peptic ulcer, high vitreous pressure, and hypersensitivity.
Adult- PO- The recommended dose is 1 to 2 lakh units USP, four times per day for 10 days.
Ophthalmic: IM- The recommended dose is 1-2 mL of a 1:5,000 diluted solution.
It comes as a tablet to take by mouth, with or without food.
It also comes as a solution for injection to be administered by a healthcare provider into the large muscle.
• Caution should be exercised in patients with history of blood clot problem, severe liver or kidney disease, any allergy, during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• IM :
Occasionally, severe allergic reactions.
• Eye : Increased eye pressure, eye swelling and eye inflammation.
Avoid excess dosage.
Store it in refrigerator and in an airtight container. Keep away from light and moisture.
