Bulk-billing rate pressure lowers hospital visits

Greater Southern Area Health plans to send people back to their local GPs to reduce pressure on the local hospitals.

Recent statistics show a fall in hospital waiting list numbers.

In contrast the health service reveals a 2.5 per cent rise in the number of people visiting emergency departments.

According to Ted Rayment this rise is due to reduction in GPs bulk-billing. It places challenge for the system to create a way so that patients were not always in the emergency department.
