Novel Laser Imaging Technique Identifies Brain Tumors Among Healthy Tissue
New laser technique enables the tumor to be easily distinguished from normal tissue and this is possible due to the signals emitted by tissue with different cellular structures.
It is quite difficult to spot intracranial cancers as they look just like the healthy tissue surrounding them. Though there are many techniques to distinguish tumors, each technique has its own limitations.

Researchers from University of Michigan Medical School and Harvard University have developed a new imaging technique which enables quick and accurate identification of tumor tissues.

The new imaging method employs stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy, laser-based technique that can be used during a surgery as a way to guide the surgeon.

This new technique proved to be useful during experiments on human and mouse brain tissues which had healthy and cancerous regions.
