Ranchi Hospital Gets the Nod to Perform Organ Transplantation

by VR Sreeraman on Feb 4 2007 11:26 AM

The Abdur Razzaque Ansari Memorial-Apollo Hospital here has become the first hospital in Jharkhand to obtain permission for performing organ transplantation.

The registration under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994, was received by the hospital Friday, said hospital spokesperson Javed Ansari.

''Residents of the state and its neighbouring areas now need not travel to other cities and bear a huge financial burden for organ transplantation, said Ansari.

''In our hospital, the cost of a kidney transplant would be around Rs.200,000, which would be much cheaper than the charges at other places,'' he said.

The first kidney transplant at the hospital would be performed Tuesday, he added.
