‘Linear Accelerator’ Promises Safer And Simpler Treatment For Cancer Patients

Linear Accelerator is the new machine designed to simply the treatment procedures of cancer.

Cancer doctors at the Pluta Cancer Center explain that linear accelerator helps to obtain a CAT scan while the patient is being treated. This aids in simplifying the whole ordeal of obtaining the CAT scan before the radiation treatment, in order to identify the affected tissue.

"We can now, because we can see where we're going with this C-T scan, we can actually begin to raise the doses to tumors that might be in sensitive areas, that might have an impact on their overall outcome," said Dr. Jan Dombrowski, medical director of Pluta Cancer Center.

Since a better view of target cells is possible with this new device, it enhances the chances of treating the target cells better. Also, it helps to reduce the damage caused to the surrounding healthy tissues.

The first of its kind in Rochester area, linear accelerator is supposed to reduce the waiting time of the patients and aid the treatment procedures in a much simpler and safer way.
