Baby Boomers have been known for their compulsive exercise programs are now running for succor to operating rooms and to orthopaedics, to combat the effects of over-exercise on their weary bones.
This phenomenon has acquired a sobriquet, boomeritis, which has necessitated that many baby boomers need knee and hip replacements, surgery for cartilage and ligament damage, and treatment for tendonitis, arthritis, bursitis and stress fractures.
Dr. Nicholas A. DiNubile, a Philadelphia-area orthopedic surgeon said, "Boomers are the first generation that grew up exercising, and the first that expects, indeed demands, that they be able to exercise into their 70's. But evolution doesn't work that quick. Physically, you can't necessarily do at 50 what you did at 25. We've worn out the warranty on some body parts. That's why so many boomers are breaking down. It ought to be called Generation Ouch."
There is also a thought that seems to point at the high divorce rate in this generation that ensures people spend hours at the gym. Some of them are just trying to find partners in the company of so called eligibles!
Baby boomers have always been very high on motivation, but what is really need of the hour is ensuring they are in touch with reality. They have always been the epitome of the "Can-Do"generation and just cant seem to take no for an answer.
